About this deal

When Jesus burst onto the scene, he didn’t subdivide humanity into categories and give each one a separate message.

Polygamy also diverges from the Adam-and-Eve model, yet scripture does not generally denounce these patriarchs as sinners for their polygamy So variance from the monogamous model was permitted, but purportedly not from the heterosexual model; this seems like an arbitrary interpretation rather than a principled one. He invites everyone, burdened with all kinds of sins, to come to him, to repent, and be free from the chains of self-worship.This sensitive exploration of the Bible’s teaching on sexuality has been written to help both Christians and non-Christians struggling with the Bible's teaching on this issue, whether they experience same-sex attraction themselves or not. Would def recommend to any Christian hoping to understand more about this topic and how the church should respond, especially with it being more relevant these days. Mary’s Church in Maidenhead, England, distills the most important points of his discussion into five short chapters.

Allberry believes that open conversation on how to deal with same sex attraction is both necessary and healthy. The Episcopal Church, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) formally permitted the ordination of queer clergy in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013, respectively (*1). Perhaps surprisingly, we learn that the Bible rarely addresses homosexuality directly and as such ‘it is probably not the first thing, or even the main thing. Allberry is a frequent contributor with The Gospel Coalition, Desiring God, and a speaker for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, in addition to being a self-described Christian apologist.Along with this statement, Allberry charges the church to stop putting marriage on a pedestal in the same way.

Um livro muito bonito , tocante , sensível e que todo cristão , que independente se passa ou não por esse tipo de luta , deveria ler ! It is a short book (I read it in one sitting and I am a slow reader) but it is packed with wisdom and is very accessible. This identity factor is of utmost importance, because someone who identifies as “being gay” cannot reconcile that identity from a biblical worldview. Whether you’re wrestling with your own sexuality or just looking for answers on what the Bible really tells us about homosexuality, Is God Anti-Gay? What needs to be addressed at the beginning of this is that the culture has so attached sexuality to identity that if we are to oppose a sexual lifestyle, it feels like an attack on the core of who many people believe themselves to be.I have very little helpful language for this at present and was grateful to be given a gracious, hope-filled starting point. I hope frankly, that older more conservative Christians do read it and that, despite its faults, it can have a positive impact around the way we treat and speak about LGBT people/SSA in our churches. I definitely recommend this book, and I appreciate Sam’s willingness to make himself vulnerable before the Christian community for our own good. On this point, he helpfully cautions: “I believe change is possible, but a complete change of sexual orientation is never promised in the Bible” (46).

It is telling that Allberry does not have queer Christians who champion his cause, but it is even more telling that his greatest allies are members of the Religious Right who have much to gain and little to lose. Together with an autobiographical introduction and conclusion, these chapters provide a wise way forward for Christians to be a faithful and compassionate witness to the gospel in our society. After a preliminary chapter discussing marriage and sex within the Biblical text, Allberry devotes a chapter each to homosexuality and the Bible, homosexuality and the Christian, homosexuality and the Church, and homosexuality and the society.Desires for things God has forbidden are a reflection of how sin has distorted me, not of how God has made me. I have found it very refreshing to read a book on this topic, from someone who personally wrestles with issues of same sex attraction, yet stands firmly on the teaching of God's Word. The existential heart-cry deep within the soul of these individuals is, “What kind of a man (or woman) am I if I experience same-sex attraction? This short book is helpful to form a basic framework for a gospel-centered approach to confronting homosexuality and same sex attraction. Sam comes from Sevenoaks in Kent, but studied theology at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford, and has since worked at St Ebbe's Church, Oxford, and now serves at a church in Maidenhead.
